Overview:
This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in a friendly and professional manner, helping to create a positive library experience for all patrons. The role focuses on supporting programming initiatives and assisting with school and community outreach events.
Essential Job Duties:
- Assist with planning, executing, and marketing programs in collaboration with the Programming Team.
- Plan and implement school outreach in partnership with the Outreach Team, District 118 faculty, parochial schools, and area preschools.
- Participate in community outreach events with the Outreach Team.
- Provide friendly, professional customer service in person, by phone, and through electronic communication at various service desks throughout the library
- Supervise an indoor play space, including a slide and interactive elements, when assigned to the Kid City service desk.
- Effectively resolve patron questions, concerns, and complaints.
- Provide readers’ advisory services.
- Assist patrons with the catalog, online databases, and one-on-one device support.
- Troubleshoot library equipment and report issues to appropriate personnel.
- Confidently use and explain library technology and digital resources.
- Participate in RAILS and other professional networking groups.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and sound independent judgment.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
- Represent the Library by always maintaining a positive and professional image.
- Ensure compliance with all Wauconda Area Public Library policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort with public interactions, in individual or group settings. Ability to deal courteously, diplomatically and relate to individuals of various backgrounds.
- Ability to adapt to constant change with patience, tact and professionalism.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of public library, school, daycare, or related work experience with a children’s focus.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Hours:
37.5 hours per week. Schedule includes morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Schedule subject to change.
Rate:
$21.85 - $24.00/hour, depending on qualifications. Includes IMRF benefits, pro-rated vacation and holiday pay, health insurance, dental, vision, and life insurance options.
