SUGGESTION BOX
April, 1999
| 1. I would like to suggest a band called B*witched's latest album. If you do get this CD, I would be grateful to use it first. | We will try to order this CD for you and call you when it arrives. |
| 2. Please buy Nick DiMartino's Christmas Ghost Story, Seattle Ghost Story, University Ghost Story (excellent reviews). I think this is the best library I've been to! | We have ordered these books. Thanks for the compliment! |
| 3. Please buy Practical Magic. | This video will be considered for purchase when it becomes available in the resale market. |
| 4. Can you please post, on your website, the current Board minutes, or, update the notebook in Reference with the past year's minutes -- it stops at June 1998. Thanks! | The current Board meeting minutes will be posted on the website from now on, and the book in Reference has been updated. |
| 5. The parking lot, especially on snowy, rainy, icy days is architecturally so far from the entrance. What were the designers thinking? My safety matters, too, and it's dark out there. Please create a safer and closer-to-parking entry. Why stairs?!? | All of these issues you have raised were considered very
carefully during the design phase of the building project. Because the building expansion project consisted primarily of adding a second story, stairs were unavoidable. In fact, we went to great lengths to minimize the incline to the entrance. The original plan called for two additional steps. As for the distance of the entrance from the parking lot, our parking spaces are actually closer than is the case at most libraries of this size or greater. We do understand your complaint, though -- many of the staff use the front entrance, too. As for lighting, we will soon be adding some lighting to the area in front of the building. |
| 6. Please put partitions between public Internet computers. Others watch/read your personal work and it's not private at all! | We put up privacy screens on all the terminals and patrons kept removing them (even when removing them meant break them). At nearly $100/a piece we decided to take them off. You can request a privacy screen at the reference desk. You can also book a private lab up to seven days in advance. |
| 7. Love the library! Can you please order the videos Twice Upon a Yesterday (1998 Montreal film festival), and Following (a new thriller)? | These videos will be considered for purchase when they become available in the resale market. They currently list at over $100.00 each. |
| 8. Please buy the movies Out of Sight, Something About Mary, Babe in the City, Rush Hour, Home Fries. | Babe, Pig in the City will be purchased as soon as it available on video. The others will be considered for purchase when they become available in the resale market. |
| 9. Fix the bump turning in here off Main! It's hell on our cars. | We are currently considering solutions for this problem. |
| 10. Re: Sunday and/or Saturday programs. I miss the introduction and ending by a library person. It does not give programs the completeness that they used to have. It would also give more respect and appreciation to the people giving the programs. | It is still our policy to do this and if it should ever occur again, please let us know specifically which program so we can talk to the person in charge of that program. Thanks! |
| 11. As with last month's program, O'Carolyn's Daughters, today's program was not hosted by someone from the Library. There was no closure to the program from someone in the Library. This does not leave the audience members (or probably the performers) with a very good feeling. Please assign someone from the Library to host the concert from the beginning through the end. Thank you! | You're absolutely right! This will be remedied. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. |
| 12. As two academic librarians who just happened to be in the area, we found your library to be beautiful and well stocked. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. | Thank you! |
| 13. List printed showing book names/due dates very odd/archaic. If patron loses list, there is nothing as a reference as to due date. Time to modernize. | This is the best technology available to us, for now. Improvements are in the works, but will probably be cost-prohibitive for the next few years. |
| 14. Video Simon Burch, please. | This video will be considered for purchase when the price is more reasonable. |
| 15. I am writing in regard to your services at this library. I called today and asked for the Reference Desk and I spoke to a staff member who offered to look up a book for me. In the midst of our conversation I told her how wonderful it was to have a library card on my key ring. I had the phone number readily available and that was how I was able to call from work. An immediate reminder of the time element whichever day of the week. I thought it only appropriate to acknowledge this great idea. I do not carry a purse but my keys are with me at all times. It is so much easier than trying to find my card when I'm in a hurry, which the whole world is at any given time. | .Thanks for your compliment about our key tags - our patrons love them! It was a great idea. The newer, stronger key tags should be delivered the week of May 20. We were the first library in our system to utilize them and others may be following! |
| 16. Give (Children's Department employee) a big raise for all her hard work! | Thank you for your appreciation. |
| 17. I like the idea of the countdown to the new millenium when you walk in. I think you should keep it up all year and have a big buzz when it ends! | We want our patrons to be aware of how much time is left for them to become members of the Millennium Club! Anyone can become a member by checking out 1,000 items between August 25, 1997 and January 1, 2000. We expect several hundred members by 1/1/00 !! |
| 18. More computers and books in the children's book rooms. When my child has a report, all the good books are taken. | Because many children often get the same assignments at the
same time, "the early birds get the worms." If your child needs information for
a school assignment, please ask the childrens librarian for assistance. We have many
resources on hand even when all circulating materials have been checked out. There are four computers available on the counters in the Childrens Department and two private labs that may be reserved a week in advance. Please call ahead if you know that your child will need to use a computer, and we'll try to be accommodating. |
| 19. You should get a magazine called "Daily Bread". It's an inline skating magazine. | We'll consider it. |
| 20. Suggested movies: California Split, Thieves Like Us, Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, Pedro Almodovar, High Heals. | These videos will be considered for purchase. |
| 21. Please get the magazine "Woman's World". | We'll consider it. |
