September is National Library Card Sign-Up month, and this is the 12th anniversary of the Wauconda Area Library's partnership with the business community. Approximately 165 library district businesses are partnering with the library to give you more ways to save with your library cards!

Show your Wauconda Area Library card at one of the participating businesses to enjoy freebies or discounts during the entire month of September.

In this tough economy, public libraries are used more than ever, and our library is no exception. Your library card is your ticket to opportunity - what other card in your wallet gives you free access to books, movies, music, magazines, the Internet, cultural and entertainment programs and all sorts of other resources that can change your life - or just make it a little more fun?

Checkout and SPIN is Back!

When you checkout 10 items at the Circulation Desk or 5 items at the self-checkout machine, you can SPIN the wheel for great prizes from our local business partners, including:

Would you like email reminders before your library items are due?

Try our new online
Library ELF Alert Service!

Library ELF is a free, web-based service for keeping track of your library items, including what's due, overdue, and ready for pickup.  You can also use this service to track one or more accounts in one place. 

Library ELF is great for families or anyone else who would like reminders before an item is due.

Since the library began offering this service in 2007, 6410 individuals or families have signed up for Library ELF and have received about 35,000 pre-due or over-due reminders!

With Library ELF you can:

• receive free due date reminders when you want them; for example, you could get a notice one week before an item is due, then every day until it is due.
• view due dates in a convenient calendar format
• get notices as email, cell phone text message or RSS feeds
• consolidate your accounts from several different libraries
• consolidate the library accounts of family members

Sign-up for an account today

To sign up, go to the Library ELF signup page for the Wauconda Area Library and follow the instructions.  Enter your name, email address, library card number, and PIN as specified.  If you do not have a PIN, please stop by the Circulation Desk at the library to set one up. 

Self-Checkout
Easy, Fast, and Convenient!

  In a hurry?  Long lines at the Circulation desk?  Use the self-checkout station located just left of the exit doors.  All you need is your library card in good standing and the books, DVD’s, or CD’s you want to checkout.  It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

1. Scan your library card barcode, which is located on the back of your library card.
2. Scan the barcode on the item you are checking out.
3. Desensitize your items.  Instructions are located at the self-checkout station that show you exactly how to do this.

You’re finished!  A receipt will print out at the end of your transaction.  It shows what items were checked out and when they are due back at the library.
