Make Snow Cream (http://www.childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=165)
Blend milk, sugar and vanilla. Stir in enough snow to make snow cream to an ice cream consistency. Add chocolate syrup or fruit to make different flavors.
**Important to note: You MUST make sure the snow is clean. It takes at least one to two hours to clean the pollutants from the air. Then use only snow that has fallen after that first cleansing snow. Stay away from that yellow snow!
Make a Glacier (http://www.childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=165)
Fill a bowl with snow and bring it inside to partially thaw. Then add more snow on top. Keep doing this all winter long. You will then have the "layers" of ice and snow like a glacier.
Make an Ice Candle (http://britton.disted.camosun.bc.ca/snow/activities.html)
Spray the inside of the bucket with the non-stick spray or rub with a little oil. This helps if you have problems with the ice stick to the bucket when it's time to remove. Fill the bucket three quarters of the way full with water and set outside to freeze. Leave overnight (depending on how cold it is). In the morning remove the ice block from the bucket. On the bottom there should be an area that is still liquid. Drain out the liquid and slush and turn it over. Allow to freeze for four more hours. The pocket where the water was now makes a great place to insert a candle. Light and place outside in your yard when it's dark for beautiful ice "crystal" candle luminary.
Make a Snow Scene in a Jar (http://britton.disted.camosun.bc.ca/snow/activities.html)
Use the hot glue gun to glue rocks and animal to the bottom of the jar. Be sure to have an adult help with this. Fill with water. Spoon in some glitter and use epoxy glue to glue the lid onto the jar. Shake to make it snow!
Make Bird Treats (http://www.childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=165)
Take the old bread slice and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Let them dry and harden enough to spread with peanut butter. Cover the peanut butter shapes with black sunflower seeds and hang outdoors on trees or anywhere birds might come.
Make Ice Paintings (http://www.childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=165)
Poke the craft sticks into partially frozen ice cubes. Continue to freeze solid. Once frozen, you now have an ice cube paintbrush. Take the paintbrush by the handle and rub it back and forth over the powered paint color on the paper. Try putting small amounts of the color colors on your paper and rubbing those with another ice cube paintbrush. Let dry.
Look for Animal Tracks (http://www.childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=165)
See if you can find the tracks of dogs, cats, birds, and other wildlife in the snow. Check out a book from the library on animal tracks and see how many different animal tracks you can identify.
Be on Snow Patrol (http://home.howstuffworks.com/snow-activities1.htm)
Sidewalk ice can be a serious danger for the elderly. With this fun winter activity, you can be the ice patrol and help keep them safe.
Find a patch of ice on the sidewalk and ask your neighbor if you can sprinkle it with a mix of sand, rock salt, and cat litter. The rock salt will help melt the ice. The cat litter will soak up the frosty water. And the sand will help keep the ice from being slippery until the whole process kicks into action. But don't forget to ask permission first!
