Nothing says summer like
the 4th of July! It's the perfect time for families to
gather, have picnics, watch fireworks and celebrate the
birth of our nation. The Wauconda Area Library is
proud to be a part of it all!
Special
We the People
Bookshelf
Exhibit:
Becoming American
The Wauconda Area Library is
one of 2,000
libraries nationwide to receive the
2006 "We the People
Bookshelf," which consists of 15 books on the theme of
"Becoming American." These titles, presented by the
National Endowment for
the Humanities, in cooperation with the
American Library Association,
encourage people to
read
and understand
great literature
while exploring themes in American history. For a list of the books, please click
here.
The
Library will have an
exhibit
(starting July 1)
explaining the grant and featuring the
books, bookmarks, and
bibliographies
along the corridor, near the top of the stairs. We
encourage everyone to celebrate
what it means to be American.

Let Freedom
Ring! "Free
People Read Freely" is the
motto for the
American Library Association's Office for Intellectual
Freedom. Check out the
Library Bill of Rights, which is the association's
policy on free access
to libraries and library materials. It encourages the
sharing of ideas and information for all people.
What
did our Founding Fathers
have in mind when they created the
Constitution
and the Bill of Rights?
The National Archives online interactive exhibit allows you
to
read the Constitution,
sign the Declaration of Independence and
meet America's Founding Fathers.
For
more U.S. history,
try the Library's online database,
BrainPop.
Great for kids and
adults, there are
short video clips
on everything from
George Washington
to
how a bill becomes a law
to the
Civil War and more!
You will need to enter the Library's username and
password to have full access to BrainPop from home or in the
Library.
