Administration

This department has primary responsibility for handling library business and operations.

The Library Director implements Board established policy; serves as advisor to the Board in professional library matters; is responsible for the operations of the library, including staff selection, collection development, library services and activities; develops and implements Board-approved budget; represents the library at the local, state, and national level; assists the Board as required; and other functions.

Adult Services

The Adult Services Area is located on the upper level when you walk in. There is a large selection of thousands of items including fiction and non-fiction books, audio books, music CD's, DVD's and videotapes, as well as newspapers and magazines. The Computer Resource Center (CRC) holds eleven computers (two are in private rooms). Internet Row holds four computers.  High-speed Internet access and Microsoft Office are available on all of these workstations.  There are also six laptops available for checkout at the Circulation Desk to be used in the library.  You must be at least 18 years old and have a Wauconda Area Library card.  If you can't find something, please ask our staff. They will be happy to assist you.

The Adult Services/Reference Librarians:

· Ask them for help in finding answers to reference questions.

· They will Interlibrary Loan materials from other libraries if we do not own them.

· Check with our staff about upcoming classes or programs being offered in the near future.

· If you need a recommendation on a good book or video, our Reference staff will be happy to help.

· The Adult Services Department offers ONE-ON-ONE instruction for patrons needing assistance in using the library's online catalog system or for people who just need to know how to navigate the library's computer resources.

Children's Services

The Children's Department is located on the lower level of the library. Bold colors and bright lighting make this area especially attractive. There is a 300 gallon salt water aquarium purchased by the Friends of the Library. Please feel free to take a look.

The Children's Department welcomes all children from birth through 5th grade and features materials and programs for all levels. A storytime crafts room and a spacious play area will entice the young ones, while five computers should help the older students with their work. We also have two computer rooms available for sign-up. The Internet is available in the Children's Department as well.

 

Circulation Department

The Information Desk is the first desk that you encounter upon entering the library. The friendly staff at this desk will assist you with any of the following services:

· Library Cards - whether you need a new card, you've lost your card or you need to make some changes on your card, the Circulation staff can help.

· The Circulation staff can assist you with renewals of your items, holds on materials and fines owed by you.

· If you have questions about upcoming classes or programs, much of that information is available at the Circulation Desk.

· If you need Notary Public Services, our Circulation staff will be happy to help.

· Voter Registration services are available at the Circulation Desk.

Technical Services

This Department is responsible for the cataloging of all of the new materials coming into the library, the maintenance of the current collection as well as all interlibrary loans.
