Introduction to Wauconda Area Library's
Web-Based Community Calendar

What is the Community Calendar?

The Community Calendar is an Internet-based cooperative service that provides Wauconda area residents with one-click access to local happenings.  Its purpose is to keep everyone with Internet access up-to-date on events and public meetings being held throughout the community.  Anyone using the Internet can search for Wauconda area events by subject or date, and can even register for events online if required.  The new Community Calendar is available from the Wauconda Area Community Information Network (www.waucondaarea.info), the library’s home page (www.wauclib.org) and through other community organizations' websites.

The Wauconda area’s United Partnership for a Better Community has greatly facilitated the participation of many community organizations.  Wauconda is the recipient of the 2004 Governor's Home Town Award in recognition of the Partnership's achievements.

Please see also our Community Calendar Fact Sheet for basic information.

How can an organization participate in the Community Calendar?

All non-profit organizations located in the library district are able to participate in this project free of charge and can enter their events to the calendar via the Internet.   Notices of events, meetings, social gatherings, classes, seminars etc. are easily added to the interactive Community Calendar.  By simply clicking on a calendar listing for any given event, users are provided further details about that event and in many cases are linked to the organization’s website.  Participating organizations can easily promote not only their events but also their other services by providing links within their calendar listings.  Please see also these related pages:

How is the library able to provide this valuable service for free?

The online calendar is made possible by the library ’s participation in NorthStarNet, an Internet-based community information network comprised of more than 120 communities in the suburban Chicago area, serving a total population of over 2 million.  NorthStarNet is sponsored by the North Suburban Library System.  Because NorthStarNet provides the technical infrastructure and support for the online calendar, the cost to the library is minimal and there is no cost at all to participating organizations or users.
