Well known for its friendliness, the Wauconda Area Library serves a fast-growing district of 27,000 residents with a staff of 53 employees, an award-winning building, and state-of-the-art automation and computer services. The Wauconda Area Library, North Suburban Library System's 2005 "Library of the Year," is located in the fast-growing northwest suburbs of Chicago, in western Lake County, just north of Barrington and Lake Zurich. The library district encompasses all or portions of Island Lake, Lakemoor, Lake Barrington, Port Barrington, Volo, Wauconda, and unincorporated Lake County.

Overview

Under the supervision of the Circulation Services Supervisor, this employee understands and follows the mission and values of the Wauconda Area Library.  They are responsible for the retrieval and delivery of library materials from locations within the district and to assist with various errands as needed.  They are responsible for providing exceptional customer service in a friendly and professional manner and for creating a positive library environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and enthusiastic customer service.

  • Actively promote a positive library experience.

  • Demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills, flexibility and sound judgment.

  • Safely use the library vehicle to transport library materials and run errands as needed.

  • Perform safety check on vehicle before operation - recognizing and reporting maintenance and vehicle problems.

  • Maintain excellent condition of vehicle including refueling, checking fluids, tire pressure and cleanliness.

  • Understand and follow all traffic laws.

  • Process materials quickly and efficiently in the Circulation backroom, including shelving.

  • Assist in Circulation area with both clerical and basic patron assistance.

  • Perform meeting room setup and take down duties.

  • Perform inside and outside maintenance assistance including trash collection and snow removal.

  • Work productively in a fast paced team environment.

  • Ensure all policies of the Wauconda Area Library are maintained.

  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to productively communicate with all levels of library staff and management.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage details.

  • Serve on committees as needed and attend library meetings as directed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school graduate and at least two years working experience in a public service position.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, bi-lingual a plus.

  • Valid Driver's license and continual proof of insurance.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Excellent driving record including proof of driving record.

Physical/Other Requirements

  • Must be fully mobile.

  • Must possess manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when moving library materials or operating automated equipment at the library.

  • Must be physically able to push and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be physically able to walk, stand, stoop, bend and reach.

  • Must be physically able to work on your feet and stand for extended periods.

Hours include early mornings and weekends.

Starting pay $12.50 per hour.
