SUGGESTION BOX

September, 1999

1. Please set up an exchange program for seniors for paperback books, or a 2 for 1 exchange.

We will consider doing this.

2. I would suggest more Hispanic-American literature for grade school children. It would be great to have a display for Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15).

We will be adding to our collection of Hispanic-American materials over the coming year. We will keep in mind your suggestion to have a display next September!

3. Get Microsoft certification study books.

Right now, there is not a huge demand for these titles. Most of our patrons are interested in the user guides for the different software applications and we need to concentrate our collection in that area. If we get more requests for the certification guides in the future, we will be happy to reconsider.

4.I think the library is awesome. A couple of years ago, I was in a class, every month and you would make a project in that month referring to the holiday coming up or just whatever, but I think you should do that again!

We are happy hear that you enjoyed our craft sessions. Although we no longer offer those projects on a monthly basis, we do hold several "drop-in" craft days throughout the year when the schools are closed for holidays or institute days. Our next drop-in craft day will be Monday, October 11th. Hope you can make it!

5. Would you please change Senior Coffee Hour to either Thursday or Tuesday?

We'll consider this.

6. Via website: I am a new WAL patron. I'm very impressed with the library, especially the comprehensive AV selection. I do, however, have a suggestion/complaint: The poetry and drama sections are very, very outdated … Mind you, I'm well aware that poetry isn't the most popular section in the library. I couldn't help feel that it and drama are being neglected or are quite underfunded. This is a shame.

We went through the lists of all the poets you suggested and purchased several titles by each one. Thank you for noticing and taking the time to help us improve our collection.

7. I believe that any video that is not rewound when dropped off should be fined 50 cents for each and every video. I'm tired of rewinding things I want to watch.

We will encourage rewinding the videos at check out, so we do not have to charge patrons. We will monitor this situation, and hopefully everyone will be courteous and think of the next patron!

8. The upstairs checkout desk is very child unfriendly. Children want to watch the librarian check out their books. To have the workers at the desk telling children to "Get down…Stop that…NO!" leaves a bad feeling with children and their parents. Small stairs so the children can see what is going on would be fantastic. Please get them, or have the children check out downstairs.

In order to ensure the safety of your child, we don’t allow children to sit on the counters or stand on the stools. We have had accidents in the past, and we want to prevent that from happening again. If a child wants to see the librarian check out the items, they would probably feel safe in your arms watching us. Thank you.

9. Please -- Turn the air down in the computer room!! It's too cold to type!

We'll monitor the temperature. It is sometimes difficult to ensure equal temperature throughout the library. We will make adjustments as needed.

10. I think the businesses offering free or discount items in affiliation with the library cards is an excellent idea.

The businesses that ‘partnered’ with us for the ‘National Library Card Sign-Up’ promotion were wonderful. We thank them all and plan to run this again next year.

11. Could you please get the 2000 series Goosebumps?

Goosebumps 2000 is currently on order. We should have copies for check-out within 4-6 weeks.

12. Please buy these videos: James Michener's Centennial, Her Alibi, and a movie of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

We will purchase these. Thanks for the suggestions!
