June 1999 Suggestions

1. I just wanted to say how great your computer class was (Microsoft Word, Beginner). Excellent program. I've signed up for the Excel also.	Thank you very much. We will pass this information on to the staff member who designed and taught the program.
2. I suggest that kids can get movies with their parents' cards without them being here.	Our video policy states that children under 18 can check out "Children's" movies, but in order to check out movies from the Adult Department the cardholder needs to be 18.
3. Please, more computer classes.	We are offering several computer classes almost each and every month. With the number of reference staff we have and the number of other duties they have, we probably will not be increasing the number of computer classes in the near future. We will repeat classes though; so, if a class you wanted to take was full it will most likely be offered again in a few months.
4.Extend the limit of videos per family.	Since the videos are free, we feel that a limit of 6 per household for 2 days works well with most library patrons.
5. Get rid of Amazing Grace (about lesbians and gays), in kids books!	This will be reviewed by our Challenged Material Committee.
6. Clocks are wrong. Millennium: 2001.	Please explain.
7. Can we have a dress code for employees? Especially pages (girls).	If a page is wearing something that you find to be offensive, please let us know. None of the library employees have noticed the pages wearing anything that we have found to be offensive in any way.
8. Several of us would like a bus trip to Ravinia like we had last year.	We will consider this as a program for next summer.
9. Rewinding video tapes upon return - or $2.00 rewind fee by library.	It is unfortunate that you have gotten videos that were not rewound. Most patrons are courteous and rewind their videos before returning. We will monitor this situation and if it does become a big problem, we may have to institute some sort of rewind fee.
10. Please get Holly man and South Park movies.	We'll consider these carefully.
11. Please take Power Rangers and X-Men book & tape and put them upstairs. Not appropriate for young children.	We'll consider this. However, initial feeling is that these materials are used primarily by second through fourth graders, and are therefore appropriate downstairs.
12. Get better videos. More family ones. Not the sick videos that are out. It will really help our country.	We are careful to select as many quality family films as we can. We also select many films which, although they are not "family" films, are selected for their critical acclaim and/or for their popularity. We take great pride in offering one of the best collection of videos in the region.
13. The display case has been empty a long time. Why? You usually have something in there!	Good point! We had a week of empty display case due to the fact that a display was removed early and the next one was not ready to go in. We do our best to avoid this. It's great to know you enjoy the displays!
