1. I still hate the "receipt" for books with the due date. Other area libraries do not have this system (Lake Zurich & Barrington). Please supply a date stamp so customers can stamp their own books.

We do offer an alternative for you – next time you check out, please ask the Circulation staff for some date due slips. You can insert these in the front of the books and write the due dates on these slips. This should work out well for you.

2. I am very disappointed that the Children's Summer Reading Club celebration is mid-day and mid-week. It should be on Saturday. It discriminates against working parents who must take a half day off to attend. Children of working parents also participate in the Summer Reading program.

3. Purchase the movies Weird Science, Coming to America, Alien II, Hackers, Splash 2, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Kalifornia, Stepmom, Enemy of the State, Hallmark Hall of Fame movies, Game of Death, Thunderheart, True Romance,High Anxiety, Avengers show, silent films by Buster Keaton (12 titles), Marx Brothers movies, Jack Lemmon movies, The Rainmaker (with Matt Damon), Three Stooges movies, Spaceballs, Far and Away, Godspell, French Kiss, also videos on Sittercise.

We already own many of these movies. Several of these titles were not selected because of bad reviews or excessive gratuitous violence. We'll reconsider each of the titles you have listed, though.

4.Please get more videos that are better for 13 to 19 year old kids

We'll try! Any specific suggestions?

5. Can you guess what I wish each and every time I come to the library? A downstairs checkout! Even if only for items stacked in that section. I realize this has been asked and answered numerous times. But I'm asking this time, hoping that maybe someone can look at the problem again and find a way to make it work.

We seriously considered this when we were designing this building. We have polled several other libraries, and spoke with staff that actually had a checkout in the Children’s Department. To have a checkout in the Children’s Department, we would need extra staff, extra equipment and most of all, workspace. There are not many libraries that have more than one checkout station anymore. In any case, thank you for your suggestion. KN

6. Is Wauconda Library going to have DVD's for computers available for rental in the future? Can you address this issue in your newsletter?

We are going to begin a collection of DVD's in September! We'll let you know in the Winter/Spring edition of the newsletter which DVD titles we have purchased.

We do not yet have the resources to purchase computers for lending out.

7. All the Traditional Homes magazines for 1999 have been gone for a week. When will they be back? I am told I can't put a hold on a magazine. Why not?

Holds through the computer are not possible on magazines, but we will gladly watch for a certain issue for you – just let the reference librarian know next time you are in the library and we will hold it for you.

8. (via website) Please update the Children's site for the current month, or is it still February?

9. Please change the video checkout policy to at least one week. And also the overdue charge should be dropped to $1.00 per day, not $2.00. This is typical of most library policies.

We feel that 2-3 days for videos is fair. We do have documentaries that are lent out for 7 days. This gives everyone a better chance of getting more movies sooner. Some libraries that have a lower overdue fee charge a fee to check out the videos. Since ours are free to check out, our fines will remain at $2.00 for now.

10. (via website) Please add "Freethought Today" to the library newspaper/magazine collection.

We'lll consider this title.

11. I come to the library to relax and read. I raised seven children and I want to cry when I come here and see (many, many times) kids running to the stairs and elevator very loudly. Someday, I won't come back. My children behaved much better.

Sorry some of your visits to the library have not been pleasant. We try to remind the parents and the children about quiet voices and not running in the library. We have such a wonderful Children’s department, that they are very excited to get here and then sad to leave, so it makes it tough for the parents.

12. I think it would be nice if you used volunteers.

We do use volunteers! Please let us know if you are interested.

13. Clean the videos more often, please. Either that or get new videos to replace the old ones.

We are currently utilizing our Carmel service workers to do some extensive video cleaning. If you have a problem with a video you check out, please make sure to let someone on the staff know. We will make sure to review it and clean the tape.

14. Please let people put a hold on videos.

We are currently considering this as a part of our circulation policy.
