SUGGESTION BOX

May, 2002

1. I think you should get the music CD of the group "Quarashi". Thanks!

The library will look into purchasing this title.

2. It would make it so much easier if everything had the same check-out time.

We agree. However, this would result in long waits for our most popular items. The current loan periods are designed to make the optimal use of the library’s collection and are typical of loan periods at most public libraries.

3. What a lovely library. Kudos for decorations. Love the "flag theme". A joy!

Thank you! Your appreciation is appreciated!

4. Pick up mail at Post Office in a.m. so papers can be put out on same day! Move Trib to top of rack; old folks find it hard to bend!

We’ll try to get the newspapers out earlier and will move the Trib to the top rack. Thanks for letting us know!

5. Please buy the videos "The Emigrants", "The New Land", "Oscar and Lucinda", "Shogun", "Baby Mozart", "Baby Bach", "Baby Einstein".

The library is looking into purchasing "The Emigrants", "The New Land", "Oscar & Lucinda" and "Shogun". "Baby Mozart", "Baby Bach", and "Baby Einstein" are already owned by the library. If you need assistance locating these items, please ask at the Children’s Reference Desk.

6. Visited library for the first time on 4/28. The librarians were extremely helpful and friendly, and this library is beautifully designed and well organized. Very user-friendly! Thank you!

Thank you -- we hope you’ll visit us often!

7. Please get rid of some of the disgusting movies. Two in particular are "When Night is Falling" and "Sister, My Sister". These are just two of a list, but they are particularly sick!!

We’ll reconsider these.

8. Please, please bring back "Book Page" newsletter! We really miss it!

The library is looking into subscribing to this newsletter.

9. (Via web site) I’d like to suggest a link that might be good for the library: www.kplay.cc/reference.html. What it does is make it simple to use different reference works on the Web.

Thank you! The library always likes to hear about useful web resources. We will take a look at this site.

10. Please consider these magazines: "Aquarian World", "Cook’s Illustrated".

We’ll consider these. Thanks for the suggestions.

11. Last year at this time I wrote a letter voicing concern that the overwhelming number of children’s programs were held at times when there is no way working parents would be able to attend. Of particular concern was the reading celebration. The Library planned an entire event to encourage reading and then the big reward was scheduled when over half the population (latest census figures show the majority of children live in homes with two parents working outside the home) would be unable to attend.

Yesterday, I received the Library’s "Reading Rocks" flyer and discovered that once again this year the celebration will be held when half your customers will be working.

I received no response from my letter last year. I guess the fact that there was no change this year is my response.

We regret that you have not been able to attend the reading club celebration. It is difficult to schedule a time for the two shows that would work for every family. As you probably noticed in the "Reading Rocks!" flyer, there are two shows scheduled for evenings: Dinosaur Discoveries and Big Run Wolf Ranch. We hope that these will be convenient for your family to attend.

Throughout the summer reading program, we try to encourage children to read and to explore the library’s collections. With support from six local sponsors, we will be giving children who meet their weekly reading goals coupons redeemable for free foods and desserts. We will also distribute various prizes at registration, at two-week completion, at four-week completion, and at six-week completion of reading goals. We hope that these numerous prizes will reinforce reading as a pleasurable activity, but we hope even more that children will find reading the ultimate reward, one that is far richer and more meaningful than any trinkets or performances that we can provide or present.

12. Please buy: "Whole Nine Yards" video and audiobook, "A Fine Balance" audiobook unabridged (You have abridged).

The library is looking into purchasing the "Whole Nine Yards" video and "A Fine Balance" unabridged audiobook on CD. We are unable to locate an audiobook for the "Whole Nine Yards" at this time. If you have any further information, please let us know.

13. Thank you so much for the key ring card. What a great idea!

Thank you! We also thank Jewel and Dominick’s for the idea!
