SUGGESTION BOX

June, 2000

1. Have a cooking class for older people, like 6th grade through 8th grade! Thanks!

Good idea -- we'll plan it!

2. I think that you should give people FREE library cards, if they lost their old card instead of having to pay for it.

We would love to issue replacement cards FREE, however, the library must recover some of the cost for the cards.

3. You have all the Sweet Valley series but one we would enjoy "Sweet Valley Junior High".

The Sweet Valley Jr. High books are located downstairs in the Children’s Services department. If you need help finding them, the Children’s librarian will be happy to assist you!

4. Wauconda Library has always been many steps ahead of most other libraries in the area. The activities, the technology, and the collection is outstanding. Keep it up.

Thank you very much -- we try to please!

5. (via web site) Web site suggestion: (add) www.disney.com

Will do -- thanks!

6. There is confusion as to which puppets can be checked out in the Children's Department. Some have numbers for check-out, some don't. It's inconvenient to go all the way to check-out only to be told you cannot check it out. Perhaps a better sign downstairs would help.

The puppets that check out have a bar code label sewn into the mitt; the puppets that remain on the premises do not. Since we have so many "little helping hands" shelving our puppets, circulating and non-circulating puppets are often intermixed. Please inspect the puppet that your child wants before leaving the Children’s Department so that he/she won’t be disappointed upstairs!

7. Create a "classics" section of videos, leaving "comedy" etc. labels on and adding a "classics" label. Perhaps to determine patron interest in such a section, maybe have an "idea box" into which individuals could put names of older or newer classics that are sometimes hard to find. Could provide a special section to browse through.

Great ideas! We'll establish a "suggestion box" for videos later this month. As for a video "classics" section, the logistics are quite a bit more complicated -- we'll consider it, though. Thanks!

8. Since you have proceeded to delete Internet access from the computers at the back of the library, I was just wondering how those of us who need to use both the Internet and the Microsoft programs should go about doing so. Considering that the computers you sign up for the Internet do not have Microsoft applications. It is understandable that there are those who take advantage of the Internet access, but what about those of us who need to work using both applications together? I propose that you put Microsoft applications on the Internet-accessible computers so as to not have this dilemma.

If you are a Wauconda Library Card holder 18 years of age or older, you can book a private computer lab which has both Internet and Microsoft applications. We are working towards providing MS Word at the internet workstations, as you suggest. You're right -- that is the ideal setup.
