SUGGESTION BOX

January, 2002

1. Please purchase these DVDs and videos: Specialist, Cloak & Dagger, Midnight Express, Princess Diaries, Shanghai Noon, Me and the Colonel, It’s a Great Feeling, another copy of Pearl Harbor, Atlantis, the Lost Empire.

These DVDs and videos have been ordered or interlibrary loaned for you.

2. The computer programming books section should carry books for Microsoft net programming (C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, ADO.NET), also books on SQL databases. People trying to use current programming software packages.

Thank you – we’ll get some of these.

3. There were two large round tables in the magazine-newspaper area. Now there’s only one. Will you put it back? Miss it!

The table had to be used elsewhere in the library. We will replace it soon, though. Sorry for the inconvenience!

4. You need better computers faster.

We recently replaced five computers for public use with Pentium III computers. We will replace most other public computers this summer.

5. (via Web site) Can you look into the possibility of checking out books on electronic media for use with Palm type handheld computers? Netlibrary.com allows members of affiliated libraries to check out books to be read online or from your computer and peanutpress.com sells ebooks for use with PDA’s. I think this would be a great addition to your library.

This will soon be possible at this library. We also plan to purchase two ebook readers for checkout in the near future.

6. I have used Wauconda Library to teach my classes in literature. We have studied Shakespeare’s tragedies (Hamlet, Othello, Lear and MacBeth) in great detail thanks to the advice and help of your great staff. My school has a very limited budget and our students tend to get a "second hand" type of academic experience. You have made it possible for me to offer quality academics to my students. Thank you.

You are very welcome. We are happy to be of assistance.

7. Thanks you so very much for this library. Everyone is so helpful. The decorations are simply lovely. Please purchase more books on tape unabridged. Again, thank you. I always come with and smile and leave with a smile!

Thank you for your kind compliment. We purchase the unabridged version of the audio books whenever available. We are very happy your experiences at the library have been so positive!

8. (via web site) If the Library is really a neutral party on the Volo power plant issue, then perhaps you should have another look at your web site. The link to the proponent site is presented without comment. The link to an opposition web site is an "outstanding resource" and is "recommended". The emphasis on aesthetic and operation details of the power plant makes it pretty clear to me that the Library does indeed have a position on this topic. I am a Wauconda resident and am not pleased about my taxes being used for advocacy on this issue. If you want to be neutral, then be neutral. If you want to advocate, then join an advocacy group and do it on your own time.

The presentation of information related to the issue of the power plant is intended to be neutral. The description of the opposition web site was taken from an objective resource. As for the "emphasis on aesthetic and operation details of the power plant" – we are simply providing the information which has been made available to us by both the opposition and the proponents of the power plant. The power plant issue is of extreme importance to the future of the entire Wauconda Area and more. The library encourages all district residents to become well informed on this issue and we are doing our part to facilitate this.

9. For additional revenue: Provide fax service. Other places charge $1.00 per sheet so even if library charges 50 cents, it would increase revenue.

We will consider this. Thank you!

10. Please add some more stories/games to the computers in the Children’s Department.

Our computer technician will be adding two new games this month, and we hope to install four or five more by late spring. Please be sure to check out the "new and improved" Fun-and-Games menu the next time you visit!

11. Can you get the CD called "Alien Ant Farm"?

Yes – we’ll order it.

12. The WAPL is great! I was able to find everything I needed to teach a unit on French opera for my classes! The Adult Services Reference Department is great!

Merci beaucoup!

13. I suggest that the library invest in some "fun" band-aids. Examples include Disney characters, smiley and an assortment of colors for children who get boo-boos while at the library .

We try to keep an assortment of "fun" band-aids on hand – but they go quickly! Thanks for the reminder to stock up.
