SUGGESTION BOX

August, 2002

1.  I feel it is poor policy to have no limit on video borrowing.  Whole series of tapes become unavailable to all but one patron.

We’ll review this policy again, and consider alternative solutions.

2.  This town needs a place where the teens can go that is cheap and fun.  This way there won’t be hoards of us sitting in parking lots all night.

We are trying to get the word out that teens are very welcome at this library.  We have been increasing our programming for teens and our purchasing of library materials which are teen-oriented.  We have two teen advisory boards which have open membership.  Please let us know what you would like us to offer for teens – we’d like to hear from you!

3.  Order more “Bone” graphic novels.  There are at least seven available.

We’ll order them.  Thanks for the suggestion.

4.  (Via website) Your former director, David V. Erickson, recently died.  I would like to see a tribute to him on this web page.

A history of the library will soon be available on the library web site.  Mr. Erickson’s contributions will be included.

5.  For the computer area: Have patrons use their cards to sign out headphones, so they can listen to audio without bothering other patrons.

We are looking for a solution to this problem.  Sound will soon be available in the Computer Labs.

6.  It used to be you could come to the library to study for a quiet time.  On Saturdays and other days it is as noisy in the library and as it is at home.  I don’t come as much as I used to.  The staff is sometimes as loud as the customers.  The staff needs to tell patrons to be quiet in the library.  There is no respect at all.

Sometimes it is difficult to keep the noise level down in any public library.  We recently enclosed the Quiet Study Room in order to offer as space which provides the silence some patrons need.

7.  (Via web site) I would like to say that the library has done a great job with the crafts and programs.  I know so myself cause I have done most of them like “Win With Reading” and stuff!  I would like to thank you for all the new DVDs, videos, books, and much more!  It makes me smile everyday!!  Thank you so much!

We are happy to hear you are so pleased with our resources and programs.  That makes us smile!

8.  (Via web site) I am new and I like your library.  It’s real cool!  Can you please get some new books that I can read?

Thank you – visit us often!  We are getting more new books each week than ever before!

9.  I would again like to suggest you get some more “Two of a Kind” and “Series of Unfortunate Events” books.

We have all of the “Two of a Kind” books currently available as well as multiple copies of each title in the “Series of Unfortunate Events.”  We also have audiobook versions of the “Unfortunate Events” titles.  We will be happy to reserve any title for you!  Just stop by or call the Children’s Reference desk at (847) 526-6225.

10. Please purchase: “Boiler Room”, “Final Cut”, “To Play the King”, “We Were Soldiers”, “I Am Sam” (videos)

Will do – thanks!

11.  I think the Library should have a section that allows people to check out books in the Children’s Section.

This was considered during the brainstorming sessions for the development of this building.  Based on surveys and experiences other libraries have had, we felt it was best to initially open one main Circulation desk   However, in the future, a Self-Check may be available in the Children’s Department.

12.  How about updating your monthly suggestions area on a timely basis so someone who made a suggestion can check back to see a timely response?

We are now on a regular schedule – sorry for the wait!
