SUGGESTION BOX

March, 2001

1. Get more "G" and "PG" rated videos.

We will make an effort to find more of these. Please let us know if you have any specific suggestions.

2. It wold be nice if you could put all the "R" rated movies in a separate section so we don't have to be subjected to smutty covers when we look for movies. Also, it would be much easier to find a good family movie without looking through them.

Please remember that we do have both a "Family" section upstairs and the entire Children's video collection downstairs. Since most of our "R" rated movies are "two thumbs up" or equivalent, the covers are generally not offensive. We'll look into this, though.

3. How can the Library ask for more money when it wastes money on the Wauconda Area Library Focus newsletter? Many people toss this in the garbage. Others have computers that it could be e-mailed to. Send out a letter asking people if they want to receive it. Give them the option of receiving it via e-mail. Your costs will go down. The savings can go into the bank to pay for salaries, books, etc. Have a book drive. People sell books on-line because they have no other way to get rid of them. Offer a tax credit of 1/2 the value of each book received.

The library newsletter is one of the library's essential services and it is one of our most cost-effective ways of keeping the community up to date about library activities. Many residents have complimented us on our newsletter. The State of Illinois recommends that all public libraries produce such a newsletter at least three times per year. This is considered a basic library service. As for establishing a mailing list, please be aware that the cost of bulk mailing to every resident is far below the cost of first-class mailing to specific residents. We have established a database of patron email addresses which now includes over 700 residents! Anyone wishing to be added to this list is encouraged to do so. Also please be aware that we have an ongoing book drive at all times. The Friends of the Library have a book sale at least once each year, usually in October. Unfortunately, your suggestion of a tax credit is impossible to implement.

Thanks for your concern for our financial situation!!
