July 1999 Suggestions

1. I think this library is great, but it should really have newer movies like Stepmom or something.	We try to acquire videos such as Stepmom as soon as they become available in the secondary market when we can purchase them for less than $15. Until videos appear at this price, they generally cost $80 - $110 per video! We will purchase Stepmom as soon as possible -- thanks for your suggestion.
2. The way you are displaying the flag is illegal. It is not to be used for display. If it is up, it shall not have objects in front of it. If it is up it shall be hung square to the ground with the stars in the upper left if the flag is displayed horizontal or vertical.	Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have reviewed the flag displaying guidelines and have removed the pictures from the corners of the flag.
3. The romance novels are good, but the cases they are in are not user friendly. Their circular shape makes it hard to see where things begin alphabetically and the bindings are getting ruined. Could it be possible to get new cases? Straight, like shelves.	This method of displaying paperbacks was selected after considering a number of alternatives. Space efficiency is a factor, as is the promotional quality of the display. We will investigate alternatives for signage and labeling in an effort to make these displays mor user-friendly.
4.Having read "The Rocket Boys" it would be interesting to get the movie version called (only Hollywood knows why) "October Skies". It was well reviewed.	This video will be purchase when it comes out in the secondary video market (see Suggestion #1.
5. I just moved here from Schaumburg. I would have thought Schaumburg's CD collection would be more complete, but I must say at first blush, you've got them beat.	Thank you! We have tried to build a high-quality collection in recent years and take pride in what we've accomplished so far. We appreciate the many suggestions we have received from the public -- this helps us determine what we should purchase.
6. I am thankful for this new, wonderful facility! What a treat to return home, to Wauconda, and find there, in the middle of a once-small town, a marvelously designed and fashioned interest in progressive awareness. Wonderful. Except I've just come home after two years living in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State, one of the largest wood producing regions in the world… where (men in the paper industry) all had about the same thing to say about clear cutting and massive deforestation. People can't have all the paper they want, whenever they want, for next to nothing in cost and still hope to have trees. … Let's charge a little money for all the paper we're giving away free here. … Free of cost is a very gracious gift to the Wauconda community; a small charge is a beautiful stewardship to the community of the whole world.	Thank you for your nice comments about our beautiful building - we are very proud of it also! We are currently gathering information from other libraries about the 'charging for copies' issue. We are quite aware of the environmental issue, as well, and will undoubtedly be charging for copies in the not-so-distant future to cut down on waste of paper.
7. Please buy the Hallmark Hall of Fame Videos. They have them at Sam's Club $8.00 each. You don't have all of them.	Thank you for reminding us -- we'll try to bring our collection up to date soon.
8. Regarding "Millennium" comment. The Millennium actually begins 2001, not 2000.	Thank you for clarification. As you've probably seen by now, this is a technicality that most if not all marketing and promotional programs have chosen to overlook -- it is the changing of the year from 1999 to 2000 that interests most people, and the term "millennium" has been recently popularized to represent this landmark in time, albeit incorrectly. Sometimes -- particulary in marketing strategies -- you "go with the flow."
9. Could you please order some Judy Delton books like Kitty in the Middle or Kitty from the Start?	We have ordered Kitty from the Start. Kitty in the Middle is no longer in print, but we would be happy to request it for you through interlibrary loan. Please call the Children’s Services department at 526-6225 ext. 212.
9. (via website) I would think you would have better services for children on the website. There is no guidance for the children on how to use the Internet or what is appropriate.	In recent months we've received many positive responses regarding the children's portion of our web site. It has taken a great deal of time and effort to achieve the current level of sophistication on our web site. Our web site is still, however, in its infancy and the "how to" information to which you refer is in the works. As for "what is appropriate," please understand that it is not the library's mission to dictate the appropriateness of information -- we leave that important responsibility up to parental authority.
