SUGGESTION BOX
November, 1999
1. Please purchase these videos: another copy of "Holiday Inn", Mr. Magoo's Christmas, Trouble in Paradise, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. |
We'll purchase these. Thank you! |
2. I recommend the following: Please mark Fantasy books with "F", it's much easier to find. Please add more new Science Fiction. |
Fantasy books are currently marked with a blue unicorn. We will look into other options. We would welcome any suggestions for authors we are missing. Watch the new book shelf for the latest entries. |
3. I think you should do an art project thing for kids. |
We hold a number of drop-in craft days throughout the year, usually on days when schools are closed. The next two scheduled craft days are December 20th and January 17th. We hope you can visit the library on those days to make a few seasonal crafts! JS |
4.(Via website) I can't find what I want to find because your stupid computer can't find anything on World War I. |
I know it can be confusing to find material on World War I using the "Subject" heading on the computer, because the subject isn’t simply "World War I". The Actual Subject Heading is "World War, 1914-1918". The Wauconda Library did not come up with this subject heading. It’s Library of Congress subject headings and they are used by every library in the country. I know it seems confusing, but there is actually a very good reason for using these Library of Congress Subject Headings. If you can’t find what you’re looking for by doing a subject search on the computer, one way around it is to do a "Title Words" search, or ask a librarian! |
5. I think you should get a copy machine that is color, and one that copies your face. We need one badly, for all the projects students do! |
Sorry, but the library cannot yet afford a color copier. We did have one in the past which was provided by a vendor free of charge on a revenue-sharing basis, and had to discontinue that service because of low usage. |
6. I suggest installing a swimming pool outside the library so that patrons could check out books and read by the pool. Also, in winter it could double as an ice arena. |
Excellent idea! With any luck, the Park District may someday provide the pool across the street -- we'll provide the books! |
7. The set of books "The Green Mile" should be checked out as a set, not individually. |
We looked into this, however since we have four copies of each of the titles in the set, you can check them out all at once if you want. Since we have so many copies of the set, you should find all of them on the shelf. If you don’t, let us know! |
8. Could find a way to allow patrons to download info onto disk from the internet computers? This would save paper and ink from printouts and allow users to work more efficiently during peak demand times. |
Our computers do allow you to download information onto disk from the Internet. If you have any difficulty in doing so, please ask a librarian for assistance. PS |
9. Educational (science, gardening, and exercise) videos should be phone-in renewable. They sit on the shelf! And seven days isn't enough for exercise or gardening, etc. |
We are in the process of changing our 'video renewal' policy, and after the first of the year, you will be able to renew your videos one time. (Excluding the NEW releases). KN |
10. The vase majority of PC's are running in a Windows environment. Over half of those are now using Windows 98. Where are the reference materials on this subject? |
We recently purchased several new titles on Windows 98. Please check the shelves next time you are in. If the materials are checked out, you can reserve them. PS |
11. Please get rid of the "split screens" on the children's computers. |
The split screens are search screens that previous patrons have accessed to search for information using the browsers search functions. If you wish to close this box on the screen, simply click the "X" in the upper right hand corner of the box. DS |
12. Please straighten out the heating system! The upstairs computer section is either an oven or iceberg. This is a new building. Have the engineers fix it now! |
Please understand that with a building this large, it is difficult to make the temperature comfortable for everyone in every part of the building at all times. Generally, most of the building is comfortable when the system has had time to adjust to the season or extremes in outdoor temperature. We are continually tracking comfort levels throughout the building and making adjustments to the system. |
13. Thank you! Great library. Story time is wonderful and your Children's Department is colorful with all kinds of terrific learning materials for kids. |
We appreciate your kind comments! JS |
14. What a mess the shelves are. I couldn't find anything I was looking for. Books were shoved everywhere and out of order. I hope this will be corrected. |
We have had some turnover in our shelving staff. We are currently working on straightening the collection and hopefully you will find it much improved next time you come in. Please let us know what you think next time you’re in! Thanks. PS |
15. (Via website) I don't know if I am missing it, but can you please put a list of movies somewhere on the net? It would make it so easy to refer to my computer to see if you have a movie I would like to check out. |
Try accessing our card catalog via telnet at http://www.wauclib.org/computers/telnetaccess.html to check to see if we have the movie you are looking for. DS |
16. (Via website) Your website looks very good! Keep up the good work. The historical stuff is very cool. |
Thank you! We've worked very hard to make our website look good, easy to navigate and of service to our patrons. DS |
17. The bump at the entrance to the library of Main Street needs to be fixed. |
This "bump" is a curb engineered and constructed by the village to control drainage. A new curb at this location will be installed some time in the near future when Main Street is revised. We will make it clear to the village that we would prefer a smooth transition from Main Street into the library's driveway. For now, please note that you can avoid the bump by entering through the High School's north driveway. |
18. I suggest a vending room (for snacks). |
Vending machines are a possibility. Because of the issues and costs associated with spills and maintenance, and because there is not currently a space designed for such machines in this building, vending machines will be not be considered further until some time in the future. |
