SUGGESTION BOX

August, 2006

1.  I am back in college after 10 years to finish my teaching degree. I love studying in your quiet room; however, sometimes all I need to do is read and would love a comfy chair or two. There is room against the wall. I’ve tried reading out in the main level of the library, but need quiet.  Thanks for taking this suggestion into consideration.  I appreciate it.

We will look into this; however, the Quiet Study Room is arranged for maximum usage and easy accessibility with the study tables and chairs it presently has.  We can offer you a comfy chair located in both the Fiction area and the Audio-Visual area.  Thanks for your suggestion.

2.  Please purchase:  DVDs: Deadwood season 2, Buster Keaton movies, New Police Story, House season 2, Dharma & Greg, Reba, Prison Break, Northern Exposure 3,4,5, Avatar series, Batman animated series 3,4, Garfield 2; soundtrack of Flight 93; Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

3.  I was disappointed (I think for the first time) because I was unable to do the computer work I came to do because I brought my thumb drive to save my information to. Most people are now carrying these drives around. Do you plan to upgrade to allow use?

We plan to purchase extension cables for each of the public workstations in the Adult Services Department to allow for this upgrade of service.   Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

4.  More suggestion boxes. It’s kind of conspicuous /awkward to have it right at the front where everyone can see you.

Your point is well taken – we’ll add a Suggestion Box on the table between the DVD and Fiction collections.

5. There was a time in the spring when you did an afternoon of open scrapbooking.  Almost all my friends scrap and we are always looking for time and space to get together and share our hobby.  I know if you offered time at the library again, it would be well received.

We will be offering monthly scrapbooking sessions from January through March in the Adult Services Department.

6. Would you offer a scrapbook night? Maybe you could even offer it once a month.

We will be offering monthly scrapbooking sessions from January through March in the Adult Services Department.

7. Please consider putting two simple signs in the Children’s Library. My children and I enjoy the library and especially like the Children’s Department—the staff is very helpful. I’m afraid that your patrons have forgotten simple library courtesy—can a few signs remind them?

*Please help put away toys

*Please refrain from running

We will look into posting signs as gentle reminders to our young patrons and their caregivers.  Appropriate library behavior often takes some time to master!  We share your concern and appreciate your suggestion.

8. Please consider offering VHS versions of new release movie/cartoon material. The children’s DVD collections are ill cared for by patrons and often VERY scratched within weeks of release and unviewable.  However, parents fail to report damage for fear of replacement costs.

For the time being, we will continue to purchase popular new releases in VHS format for the Children’s collection.  However, please be aware that this format is becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain due to the growth in popularity of DVDs.

9. There has to be a way to automatically generate “your library items are due today” emails if I chose to register an email address with your computer system. This would be quite helpful. Thanks.

Yes, we agree – this is a new service we hope to provide soon, along with emailing of notification that reserved items are ready for pickup.
