SUGGESTION BOX

October, 2006

1.  I think some quiet music in the library (daily) would be very nice!

Please understand that because there are so many types of music, and so many musical tastes, it would be impossible to provide background music which would please everyone.

2.  Please purchase:  DVDs: Medallion, Twin Dragons, Accidental Spy; CDs: Cascada, Akira; audiobook: Rich Dad Poor Dad for Teens; audiobook: Preparing for Adolescence by James Dobson.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

3.  Key-holders key card age requirement.  Sixteen is not convenient for middle schoolers. They have key chains that would make this very useful.

We chose 16 as the age requirement since most students begin driving at this age and the key chain cards can be attached to their key chains.  Remember that your library card(s) is as valuable as a credit card and we want to protect you or your child from any possible unauthorized use of those cards (if one gets lost or stolen). If you or your child has two valid library cards, that risk doubles.

4.  When kids are using computers they shouldn’t be allowed to walk away without first locking system.

Thank you for your comment.  We will monitor this more closely in the Adult Services Department computer areas.

5. “Little Miss Sunshine” is a great film, very funny; should not be rated R considering what’s on TV.

The Motion Picture Association of America gave this movie an R rating for language, some sex and drug content.   The library does not establish the ratings for videos.

6. I am a parent of an 11 year old fifth grader at Wauconda Grade School.  I would love to check out an Ipod for him if they came with Young Adult titles.

We will offer this in the near future.  As long as parents use their own library cards and accept full responsibility for the iPod, we see no reason not to offer an iPod with YA titles.    After all, this is a great way to get teens to “read” some great books!  There are some great YA books that appeal to adults, too.

7. We used for the first time last night your on-line tutoring. GREAT doesn’t say enough.  It is unbelievably helpful and even my daughter thought it was cool.  She added it to her bookmarks so I know she plans on using it again and again. I have told everyone I know to use it.  I was really amazed.

Thank you for your feedback!  This is a valuable service and we like to see that it is getting some good use!

8. You guys are life savers!! I am taking a class at CLC and don’t have the correct version of Excel and you do! I came here for four days in a row to get my homework done.  Thank you! You saved me time, gas and money! I am so proud to live in a town that has such an impressive, awesome library. My family enjoys the Children’s Department as well!  Thanks again!

We are glad we could be of help.  Thank you for your compliments.

9. Residents of Wauconda would like to play chess every week. Please, take it under consideration.

We will look into this.  Thanks for the suggestion.

10. Suggestions: Do not have to have card to go online. Do not have to have card at checkout. Better bookmarks.

Our policies regarding your library card are for your protection.  As far as the bookmarks, we almost always have a wonderful selection of bookmarks for all ages.  Please let us know if you have any specific suggestions for bookmarks.

11. I think you should lower the age that people are allowed to use laptops from 18 to 16. Sometimes the library is really crowded, and people can’t get a computer. High Schoolers might need them for homework, and can’t get one.

We plan to add several computers soon to a new Young Adult section in the area behind the Audio-Visual collection.

12. Thank you, I love the library.  Please keep up your hard work so it doesn’t fall apart. I was wondering if I could get in the WWE reading thing but I’m 9.

Thank you for the compliment!  To tie in with Teen Read Week, Oct 16-Oct 22, the New Wrestlemania Reading Challenge, sponsored by the American Library Association and World Wrestling Entertainment, is intended for teens in 9th-12th grade.

13. You shouldn’t have to have a school I.D. because some don’t give I.D.’s and then you can’t get a card.

We allow students to obtain a library card without a parent if they have a school ID.  If you do not have a school ID, come in with your parent or guardian and we will gladly issue you a library card.

14. When you have amnesty from fines (Food Pantry days) you should include movies/DVDs as you did last summer during the celebration.

We will consider that suggestion.  Thank you.

15. Daytime movies for homeschoolers before kids get out of school. Not preschool movies, but PG-13.

We’re not quite sure what you have in mind – please let us know of any specific titles you’d like to suggest.
