SUGGESTION BOX

November, 2006

1.  I think that the library should rent out video games. I am sure that many people would rent them. Some recommendations are Playstation, X-Box, Game Cube, etc.

We will consider this further.  Unfortunately, though, the newest games are cost-prohibitive.

2.  Please purchase: CDs: Rodney Atkins, SheDaisy; books Goosebumps “Night of the Living Dummy 5”, “Maximum Ride books 1 & 2.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

3.  I think we should have checkers for young adults.

Thank you for the suggestion, but we need more information from you to understand what you are talking about.  Do you mean have checkers available to play in the library, or to check out?  Please talk to the Adult Services desk staff about this.

4.  Could you please bring back EBSCO Host? I have tried several times to look up newspapers/magazines using Infotrak, but was unsuccessful each and every time. EBSCO Host seemed to be a lot more user-friendly and more capable in finding articles. Thanks.

We’ll consider this further.  Our experience with EBSCO Host was often just the opposite, so we switched.  We’ll re-evaluate before we decide on our next service.

5. You should have an area only for adults because it is dangerous to have them with the teens.

We do not understand what you are referring to in this particular instance.  The library monitor walks around inside and outside of the building to protect library patron’s rights.  Please notify a staff member immediately if you feel you are in any sort of danger.

6. I have been coming here for several weeks using a laptop and no one ever said anything about having to pay for each sheet I print…When anyone checks out a laptop, the employee should tell the patron of the fee. If no one told me in the past weeks, how was I to know? Are there signs posted, or is this a unique situation due to where laptops print at?

We are sorry if this caused you any inconvenience.  Whether you print from any of the computer stations in the library or from a laptop, there is a fee.  We will revise the laptop policy to include the printing fees.

7. Just wanted to comment on the wonderful service we always receive from the Children’s Librarians. As homeschoolers we are frequent users of the library, especially Children’s, and your librarians seem to know just what we need!

Thank you!

8. How about a computer station in Children’s like the one in the video/DVD area where one can (standing) quickly look something up? Many times I have needed to do this and all the kids’ computers are in use and I must ask the librarian on the desk, when I could have not bothered her and looked it up myself. I saw this at the Ela library and found it very convenient.

There is a computer workstation in the Children’s department that is dedicated solely to usage of the library’s catalog.  It is designed to be used while seated at the public counter –rather than while standing – to accommodate height differences between adult and child users.  This workstation does not require a Wauconda Area Library card in order to access information.  The Children’s Services staff will be happy to show you where this workstation is located the next time you visit.

9. We love your kids’ department and are here once a week but I have always thought the temperatures was way too warm down here. This morning a few other moms also said the same (as they saw me fanning myself with my November library calendar J. The basement feels warmer than the upstairs – just quite warm!

We are happy to hear that you and your children enjoy the Children’s Services department!  We regret that there are certain times during the year when it’s difficult to get the whole building just right.  Please let us know when you are uncomfortable, as we might be able to adjust the thermostat for a particular area.
