SUGGESTION BOX

July, 2006

1.  I would like to see you have an author’s list that you sign up for the authors and when a new book is released by them, your name is on the list and they call you. This is from the Indian Trails Library in Wheeling.

This is a wonderful idea but we will need to determine the time and expense that it involves.  We will look into it.  Thanks.

2.  Please purchase:  DVDs: more Keeping Up Appearances, An Angel at My Table, Medicine Man, more Cold Feet, more Ballykissangel, Jason vs. Freddie; CDs: Hoodwinked, Failed by Blue October; books: Kidnapped by Korman, Hoofbeats series.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

3.  I think you should start getting in more Broadway sheet music.

Thanks for the suggestion!  We are expanding our sheet music collection, and will be sure that show tunes are well covered.

4.  We love the library!! It’s the greatest!  One comment: My daughter used to participate in book clubs for the 4th and 5th grade.  Now that she’s in 6th, we find that it goes from 6th-12th.  Surely you can agree that a 6th grader has little in common with a 12th grader, or even 10th.  They are not going to draw the same conclusions or lessons.  Couldn’t we have a 6th-8th separated from the high school?  That’s a natural break anyway since that’s how the schools are set up as well.  We would like to continue to participate, but we won’t if the age group continues to be 6th 12th.  Thank you.

We are sorry you find this arrangement unsuitable.  Our YA collection covers 6th-12th grade, a traditional age-arranged collection you will find in most public libraries.   Some students may read at a more advanced level than others and it would be detrimental to create an artificial division of middle school vs. high school resources.  We are a popular library serving popular reading tastes and needs, and not solely curriculum-based.  We do offer a book club aimed at middle school age readers.  We also have skilled YA librarians who can assist you with your specific reading needs.

5. A light at the sidewalk at the bike path would make crossing Main Street safe for people going to the library from the Park!

Any lighting of Main Street is the responsibility of the Village of Wauconda.  We will relay your suggestion to the Village.

6. Could you possibly move the doll house?  It is hard to watch kids in two areas at the same time.  Maybe you could swap places with the Monarch display.  Or maybe it could be moved by the pillar where the tables are.  Thank you for considering.

Thank you for your suggestion.  The Children’s staff will consider other locations for the large, multi-component toys when they develop displays for fall.  However, please be aware that these exploratory toys are generally quite expensive, and keeping them within view of the Children’s reference desk has helped keep them safe and intact!

7. We love the library!

Thank you!

8. I would like to see the Children’s Department go through the 8th grade.  I feel that 6th-8th grade is a very impressionable age and I would prefer my child not be upstairs with free access to the internet and such.

This library’s age ranges for Children’s and Young Adult departments are typical of most libraries for many reasons.  While young adults do have access to the Internet, it is filtered access.  If you have any concerns about this, you can place a restriction on your child’s library card.  All computer access at the library requires use of the library card, and if a block has been placed on the card, your child will not be able to use the library’s computers without your supervision.  Please also understand that the Children’s department has space limitations which make expanding the age range for that department impossible in the existing facility.  You may be pleased to hear that the library will soon have a special new Young Adults section located behind the existing audio-visual collection.
