SUGGESTION BOX

March, 2005

1.  We need a sign that promotes what is going on at the Library so that everyone actually knows the programs and different activities.  In order to be a top-notch library you need a promotional sign (like the High School and the Park District).  Make it eye-appealing!

A new sign will soon replace the library sign near the street entrance.  When considering the design of this new sign, it was determined that an electronic messaging sign would be cost-prohibitive and perhaps out of character with the library’s surroundings.  The designer of the new sign was recommended by the library’s architect.  We hope you enjoy the new sign, although it will not promote events.  The best way to keep up to date about library programs and activities is to check our web site at www.wauclib.org!  We also recommend that you keep a copy of FOCUS, the library’s newsletter, in a safe place so you can refer to it whenever you wish.  FOCUS provides a thorough listing of all library events!

2.  Please purchase: more Christian music; videos games: X-Box, PS2, Game Cube; CDs: Fifty First Dates soundtrack, UB40, Katrina Elam, Lisa Marie Presley, Napoleon Dynamite, new Robert Plant, Collateral soundtrack, Godsmack, Disturbed : DVDs: Children Underground, PBS Civil War, Wild Man Blues,  and Ollie Hopnoodle’s House of Bliss.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

3. The primary function of a library is to provide resources for research and study.  It has always been necessary to maintain quiet in the library for this purpose.  Patrons and workers alike talk out loud as if they were in a K-Mart.  We need to have quiet in the library.  Whisper!

We generally try to keep this sort of noise down, but unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, we are not always successful.  We apologize for your bad experience.  Please be aware that there are some areas in the library, such as the “Quiet Study Room”, which are usually very quiet.

4.  I am sick and tired of coming up to the CRC to use the computers.  All I find are several kids playing video games and hanging out, talking and being very disturbing.  It’s to the point where coming to the Library is almost pointless.  I can’t imagine that you can’t come up with some plan to keep things under control in the CRC.

We are aware of the problems caused by some of our young patrons.  We have suspended the library privileges of several offenders and we have taken other measures intended to correct this problem.  We are considering other solutions, as well.

5.  Please put sound cards in your computers for headphone use.

The sound cards are already installed – we will soon provide headphones.

6.  The computer room needs to be monitored.  There is a lot of rude inappropriate behavior that is not healthy for the library.

As stated above, we are aware of the problems caused by some of our young patrons.  We have suspended the library privileges of several offenders and we have taken other measures intended to correct this problem.  We are considering other solutions, as well.

7. My daughter thinks (the librarian that runs the teen book club) is cool.  Yes, that’s right (she) is cool and that is a compliment from any teenager and especially my daughter!

THANKS!  We think your daughter is cool for saying so!

8.  The library is so HOT.  Lower the temp!

Our apologies – it’s that time of year again when it’s too soon to switch over to air conditioning, even though it is sometimes warm outside.  We usually switch over from furnace to air condition in early May.

9.  For Teen Movie night I think we should see “The Grudge”

Although we might consider it at a later date, this movie generally received poor reviews and does not meet our criteria for Movie Theatre @ Your Library series.  We feel that the home theatre might be more appropriate in this case.

10.  I was looking through the school textbooks and noticed that the only one that wasn’t there was the freshman literature book “Patterns in Literature”.  I also think that having these books there is very helpful.  Thanks!

We’ll find or replace the missing book.  Thanks!

11.  I think you guys should add more computers because every time I come here there are no computers available.

We plan to add several more laptops for checkout this year, and are considering locations for additional workstations.

12.  Subscribe to “Consumer Reports” online.

We do, in fact, subscribe to this.

13.  The Reference Librarian was so helpful and pleasant.  It’s always a pleasure when someone appreciates and does their job above and beyond.  Thank you!!

Thank you – we appreciate it!

14.  You have a wonderful library.  My kids love it.  Thank you!

Thank you – we hope you visit often!

15.  You’re set up nice but it would be even nicer if you let kids in seventh grade help out by doing puppet shows or sign language classes or something.

We’ll consider this – thanks for offering!
