SUGGESTION BOX

August, 2004

1. The drop boxes in the parking lot are much too far back to be able to access them from a car.

We’ve moved one of the book returns closer to the driveway in hopes that this will provide easier access.  The other book return is bolted.  Either this fall or next spring, we plan to raise both book returns several inches and move them both forward a bit, making access even easier.  Please be aware that the two bollards are situated to prevent vehicles from damaging these book returns.

2.  Please restore the old sign and prairie plantings in the front.

The old sign was destroyed by a high wind several months ago.  The current sign is only temporary – we need to use this sign while a new permanent sign is designed and built, taking visibility and traffic patterns into consideration.  Thank you for your interest!

3. Paperback exchange.  Patron brings them in and removes any they want to read.  No checking in or out.

We will certainly consider this suggestion.

4. I work on the computer a lot here.  Recently changes have been made so I cannot cut and paste from web sites while sending out cover letters and resumes.  Can that be changed back to the way it used to be?

You should be able to do this – if you cannot, please let us know specifically which workstation won’t allow it and we’ll fix it.  Thanks!

5.  Please purchase: audiobooks: Angels & Demons, The Notebook; DVDs: Medicine Woman, Batman, Mask of the Phantasm, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Holocaust mini-series, Batman and Mr. Freeze; books: Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer, books by Emily Rodda, Endangered Recipes, Saddle Club Super Editions.

These are being considered for purchase.  Thanks for the suggestions!

6. I do not think PG-13 movies (Lord of the Rings) should be in the children’s area. And if you have two of the same family movies (or children’s) maybe you should keep one upstairs and one downstairs.

As the Children’s department serves children through fifth grade, the Children’s audiovisual and print collections must meet educational, informational, and recreational needs across a broad developmental spectrum.  It is the responsibility of parents to monitor the library resources checked out by their children.  Please understand that is important to keep in mind that families will differ in their opinions of age and content appropriateness.

Regarding popular family movies, the library generally does purchase a number of duplicates.  Information about specific titles can be easily obtained through the online catalog – or you may call or stop by any public reference desk for a librarian’s assistance.

7.  The ladies at the Circulation Desk are always dressed so nice and professional.  Of course, they are the nicest ladies in Lake County, too.  Grayslake librarians could learn a few things. [Last sentence will be omitted from public version of these suggestions].

Thanks – we appreciate it!

8.  Letters and phonics are the basis for reading…how about a series on letters.  I.e.: a letter “A” week with a similar format to story times with books, songs, and activities.

We share your concern regarding early literacy and will discuss your suggestion at our next planning session.  Thank you for your recommendation!

9.  We just moved to Wauconda and I was very nervous about what would keep my 2 ˝ year-old busy.  What a pleasant surprise; the has library more than I ever expected, from crafts to story time, she was always happy to come…Thanks for such a warm and welcoming experience.

Thank you for your kind compliments!
