SUGGESTION BOX

March, 2004

1. You need a longer checkout (more than one week) for children’s computer games.

We agree!  The loan period for CD-ROMs is now three weeks.

2. I think your web site is great.  I surf it often to find out the latest at the library.

Thank you – we are continually adding to it and looking for ways to make it as useful as possible.

3. I wanted to compliment you on the window display (in the entranceway) you had at Christmastime.  The pictures were really beautiful and very appropriate.

Thank you!  We are fortunate to have talented staff and community artists to contribute to these seasonal displays.

4. We’re sometimes here a good part of the day and since there’s no eating in the library, I was thinking it would be nice to have a few benches outside so we could eat our lunch.  Maybe in front of the book depository?

There are a couple of benches a little further from the door, in the front plaza area.  We will consider a bench or two near the book deposit, though.

5.  I have been in the library a few times trying to study.  I feel there are too many social (young high school girls) groups meeting after school at Wauconda Library.  Something needs to be done about this.  Thank you in advance; I am certain this will be addressed.

We are working to better address this issue.  We recently began walking around the main floor study tables during after school hours and alerting noisy patrons of the need to keep their voices lower.

6. My family has only favorable comments regarding the Wauconda Area Library.  The Director, the Board and that special group of ladies that make up the Staff offer Wauconda residents so much.  The service, programs and all are exceptional.

Thank you very much!

7.  Can you please have a stapler and a three-hole punch attached to the desk either behind the Reference Desk of by the computers?

We will consider this – thanks!

8.  Please acquire: Weight Watcher Magazine, more books on building homes, the “Rosetta Stone” Spanish CD-ROM, Ryan Adams’ “Rock ‘n Roll” CD, “Six Feet Under” DVD, another “African Queen” video, more kids’ sports books, a comprehensive book on Erte.

These items are being considered for purchase -- thanks!

9.  Basically, web sites on your web page are just like the Barrington library has!

We’re not sure what you mean by this.  Our web sites are quite different in style, for one reason or another.  Certain pages are similar, because they perform similar functions.  If you are referring to the Community Calendar, please note that many other libraries and their communities are participating in this project, and all of the calendars utilize the same calendar software.  Please let us know if you have any suggestions for improving our web site!

10.  Get a video viewing/listening station with headphones to watch movies in the library.

We plan to do this soon.

11.  I would not have wanted to live my life and not attended the excellent presentation by Mr. Kwok.  The music was well chosen and he is extremely talented.  Keep the Sunday programming coming.  Those I’ve attended have been wonder filled.

We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to feature this wonderful performer.  Our programming department works hard to locate quality performers for our Sunday performances.  Glad you found this program enjoyable!

12. (via web site) Your new sensor tags on DVDs are great!  I can use them now.  Would you be able to mark the DVDs with a sticker or whatever after they’ve been moved from the new section so that people who cannot use the old sensors in their DVD players can differentiate between the two?

Thanks for the suggestion!  We will consider doing this.

13.  Please label the children’s video shelves.

We are investigating several signage options and hope to implement a child-friendly system soon.  Thanks for your recommendation!

14.  It would be nice to have one computer terminal in the Children’s Area that could be used only for a card catalog.  I am a preschool teacher; all of my resources are downstairs.  It can be frustrating when the computers are all in use and I need to look up a few things at a time, or even just one thing.  It would really be nice to have an available terminal.

We will certainly consider your request as we develop plans for future technological improvements.  Please feel free to ask the librarian for assistance when all of the workstations are occupied; we want you to obtain all the resources you need each time you visit the library!

15.  I love to come to the library.  Here I find movies, books and toys.  Thank you.

We are happy to hear that your experiences here have all been good.  Please visit often!

16.  I love coming here!  It is just so easy to find a book, and all the great books I’ve checked out here were all worthwhile.  You also have cool games.

Thanks for letting us know how much you appreciate the library’s resources!

11. Turn the heat down!!  It’s way too hot in here!

It’s not warm because of the furnace being turned up – it’s warm because it’s warming up outside and we cannot yet run the air conditioning.  Until we can count on the whether staying above freezing (usually by May 1), we cannot switch over from furnace to air conditioner.  If we were to switch of the furnace for this year, you would find the library uncomfortably cool after cold nights.
