SUGGESTION BOX

February, 2004

1. I really appreciate the Children’s Department for all their work and creativity.  The staff is friendly and helpful. My children love to come to the library and play.  Thank you.  I also enjoy all the decorations for various holidays.  I know it takes a lot of time and creativity.  Thank you!

Thank you for your kind comments!

2. Offer treats or get vending machine.

We are considering a vending machine for public use.

3. You should get more computers.

We plan to increase the number of workstation in August.

4. Provide WiFi wireless internet access for patrons with laptops (same as what Barrington has).

This is in the planning phase now.  We will add wireless internet access in some areas of the library this summer.

5.  The Children’s Department looks wonderful!  The decorations make it a fun comfortable place to be in.  Keep up the great work!

We strive to make the Children’s department a warm and welcoming place for children and adults alike.  We are happy to hear that you found it enjoyable!

6. (via web site) I want to thank you for the “Staff Suggestions”.  I have read a number of the books and have enjoyed them.  We are so lucky to have the Wauconda Area Library.  Thank you for everything.

Thank you for your compliments.  We are fortunate to have staff members who love to read and to share their ideas through this readers’ advisory service.

7.  Great “Kids in the Kitchen” program!  My daughter loves it.  I appreciated the apple pockets; real cooking and real ingredients.  When it was her turn to bring a snack for Brownies, she wanted to make that recipe, so we did.  She was so proud to serve it to her troop and say, “I made them!”  Please, please continue this excellent program.

Glad to hear that your little chef has enjoyed our cooking class!  We plan to offer “Kids in the Kitchen” this summer (one session will be devoted to making ice cream!)  Full details of the program will be available in May in the summer issue of the library’s newsletter, Focus, and on the library’s web site.

8.  Please acquire: more Linkin Park and Godsmack CDs, video “Our Town” with Paul Newman, book “Reading Lolita in Tehran”, magazines “O”, “Outdoor Illinois”

These items are being considered for purchase.

9.  When you receive new DVDs, make a copy of the original for use by patrons.  When that copy is ruined, simply make another copy of the original.  This way you always only have one copy for public use but have spared the expense of constantly buying new copies because people (and so many of them) use and ruin them.

Only a few DVD’s have had to be replaced due to damage.   Establishing a collection of backup DVD’s is not practical because of the labor and space it would consume.  Regardless of these problems, though, copyright law does not allow us to make copies of DVD’s.

10.  Get a video viewing/listening station with headphones to watch movies in the library.

We’ll consider this.  Thanks for the suggestion!

11. Put a shelf in the washroom.

We will do this soon.  Thanks for the suggestion!

12.  Please remove these offensive videos from your shelves: “Go Fish”, “Two Girls and a Guy”.

We’ll consider your request.
