SUGGESTION BOX

December, 2003

1. My daughter came home the popcorn cooking class so excited!  She doesn’t even like caramel but she said it was great.  She made sure to tell me that I had better sign her up for the next class!

We’re glad she enjoyed it so much and hope to see her in the future – thanks for letting us know!

2. Please consider having available to patrons Ancestryplus.com.  Both Ela and Barrington libraries have it, we should also.

A subscription to this database is prohibitive for the library at present.

3.  A copier downstairs which would accept library copy cards would be helpful.

A card reader for this machine will be added sometime this summer.

4. Please could we have a coat rack in the general library area?  It would make it so much more comfy!

For security reasons, we recommend that you keep your coat with you at your seat or table.  We do provide coat racks in our meeting rooms, and will consider other locations in the building.

5.  I am having difficulty locating certain CDs from music CD filing system.  Is there any way we could file by artist name?

The categorizing of so many artists and types of music is a complicated undertaking.  The system we use is the best system available for grouping the CD’s to make browsing as easy and effective as possible.  Please let us know if you need help finding a CD – we know that this system can be confusing until you get used to it.

6.  I was very impressed with the overall layout and design of the Children’s Department.  Staff is very friendly and helpful!  I wish we had the same in Grayslake (very jealous)!

Thank you so much – we worked with our architect throughout the design process, and are very proud of the outcome.  As for our staff – we want our patrons to enjoy coming to the library as much as we enjoy working here!

7.  It would be nice to be able to read a newspaper or magazine in the morning without all the talking.  The same four or five guys every morning.

We will better monitor this situation.  Please feel free to carry your reading materials to another quieter location in the library, and let us know when other patrons are too loud.

8.  Please acquire: Father Christmas and Heaven Can Wait, Adventures of Snowden  videos, Johnny English, and Beverly Hills Ninja DVDs

These items are being considered for purchase.

9.  (Via web site) They need better activities for older kids, please.

Please let us know what you have in mind – we welcome new program ideas, and the kids we serve are best source for these.

10.  Fax service is offered at other libraries, you do not.  I was referred to Sweeney’s. They wanted $3.00 for a page for a local call. Please consider this service.

As with most libraries, there is no way to make this service affordable here on a self-service basis.  We will watch for further developments.

11. If you can take out five DVDs, why can’t you take out more than two “most wanted” CDs?  Should be three or four.

We often purchase three to five copies of new DVD titles, whereas we only purchase one or two copies of new CD’s.  By limiting the number of CD’s to two, we make it possible for more patrons to find new CD’s when they come to the library.

12.  I come from Lake Zurich (Ela) and need quiet or just a smaller place.  You have a wonderful library, great views, quiet rooms and an incredible staff.

Thanks!  We’re glad you found us and enjoy being of service!

13... I like the low prices on printing.  Thanks!

Thank you – our pricing is based simply on cost-recovery.
