SUGGESTION BOX

October, 2003

1. You should get a fax box.  Because it is so much money to fax paper anywhere else.

As with most libraries, there is no way to make this service affordable here on a self-service basis.  We will watch for further developments.

2.  I just love the craft projects!

Thank you!  We plan to offer many more throughout the winter and spring.  Please check the January issue of Focus for dates and times.

3.  Would it be possible to subscribe to Ancestry.com?  I would love to be able to use this library for genealogy research.  Ask patrons when they go online to fill out if they plan to or have used Ancsetry.com to see if membership for another year is worth it.

Thanks for the suggestion for this excellent resource.  Unfortunately, after checking with the publisher, we found the price for this online subscription is prohibitive.  It is available for public use, nearby, at the Ela Area Public Library District.  The only restriction is that you must use it from inside the library there and not from home.

4. Please keep a copy of “Book Page” at the front desk or reference desk.  Several times I’ve attempted to get a copy and they are gone.  Today is only the 13th, awfully early to be out of them!  Thanks!

We will try to do a better job of keeping one copy for Reference use only.

5.  You have a poetry session for young people.  How about a poetry reading and critique for adults?  Please consider.

We are delighted with your suggestion and will definitely look into this for 2004.

6.  Just wanted to say that I am moving to Crystal Lake and I will miss this library.  I have been able to check out so many books that I didn’t need to buy because of your collection of new books.  I have not been disappointed ever – you receive the new books so quickly!  I will miss my Wauconda Library!  I hope Crystal Lake is as good!  Thank you so much!!

Thank you – we’ll miss you, too!  Please remember that you will still be welcome here – please visit us now and then!  By the way – Crystal Lake also has an excellent library.

7.  Please acquire: Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes and Abbott & Costello movies, Nothing in Common, The Man With One Red Shoe, Smallville, Indiana Jones, Star Trek Deep Space Nine movies, several books published by ICS Books, Inc., books by Sarah Graves, My Bloody Life, Swingers soundtrack.

These items are being considered for purchase.

8.  Create a story time for kids less than two.  My son and I attended since he was 9 months (at our former library) and he enjoyed it.  It was nice for me too, as I met other moms in the area.

Thank you for your recommendation.  We are in the process of planning programs for 2004 and hope to offer an early literacy program for babies and their parents.  JS

9.  Please, for the internet.  Pop-ups saying “line 7 has an error script” continue to pop up.  Other pop-ups from the server “do you want to continue running unsafe scripts on this page?’  Please fix.

This message is sometimes sent by the library’s new “firewall” system which protects our computer system.  We think we have corrected this problem, but please let us know if you see it again.

10.  I would like to get online using my own laptop.

We plan to make wireless access to the Internet available next summer, but this is contingent on resolving some security issues.

11.  The “Lord of the Rings” does not belong in the children’s section due to the violence in the film.

The Children’s department serves children through the age of twelve and their parents and caregivers.  While the “Lord of the Rings” might not be appropriate for very young children, older children ask for it frequently.  Regarding all circulating library materials, it is the responsibility of parents to supervise the selections made by their children.
