SUGGESTION BOX

August, 2003

1. It would be nice to add a fax machine for public use.

As with most libraries, there is no way to make this service affordable here on a self-service basis.  We will watch for further developments.

2.  (via web site) Please fix the library’s on-line catalog!  When I try to go to the on-line catalog, my computer tells me that there’s an error.  Please fix the site so I can renew books on-line again!

We get no error message.  The system seems to work fine at library workstations and remotely.  Please let us know specifically at which point in the renewal process you are getting the error message.

3.  Please synchronize your clocks!  It’s absolutely maddening!!

We will reset them more frequently.  Sorry for the confusion.

4. The Lincoln Room is too cold; turn down the thermostat.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as that when dealing with such a large room in a large building.  Although we do our best to ensure a comfortable temperature in all areas, it is sometimes difficult to evenly compensate for the temperature extremes outdoors.

5.  Please subscribe to on-line databases for genealogy: Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest.

We will consider this.  Thanks for the specific suggestions!

6.  Seating for the elderly on the way back to the internet room (for sitting breaks).

A bench will soon be installed inside the library’s main entrance.  We hope this helps!

7.  The entrance to the Library is the first thing you see!  Gum all over the deck!  Dirty entrance! Ugh, get some dry ice and a scraper and remove, plus power wash steps, etc.

Please take note that great care is taken to keep up the appearance of the building and grounds and that we indeed have been working on the appearance of the front entrance area.  We’ve recently painted the building and columns, had all the windows washed and carpeting cleaned, made repairs to stairs and roof, added lighting, replaced the benches out front, improved landscaping, and replaced the exterior garbage container/ash tray with a more attractive one.  More is planned, including a thorough washing of the front plaza – please be patient!

8.  Please acquire: videos: Idle Hands, Austin Powers, Father Ted series, Speedway Junky, Common Ground, Walking Across Egypt, Hope Springs, Love Actually, What a Girl Wants, Fabulous Baker Boys, SLC Punk.  Books: Avril Lavigne books.

These items have been ordered.

9.  Not ban so many web sites like runescape, pogo, etc.

Workstations in the Adult Services department are not filtered, except for chat rooms and instant messaging.  Workstations in the private computer labs and in the Children’s department, though, are filtered.  We will consider the specific sites you have mentioned.
