1. I think there should be a YA book discussion and maybe the patch things for the older kids as well. There should be more for junior YAs.

Thank you for your recommendation for a YA book discussion group. We are always looking for programs and materials that interest our Young Adults. In an effort to target programs and materials of interest to YAs, we have a YA Advisory Board comprised of teens from the area. The purpose of the Board is to advise us how to best serve those in grades 6-12. We would like to invite you to become a member in the YA board and a partner in helping us achieve this goal.

2. Angry! I paid taxes. Voted for this library, but where are the kids' librarians? Many times no one is there. Please get more help!

Please understand that the financial situation of this library is still tight, and that hiring has been reduced until the tax increase you voted for last April finally takes effect in June, 2002. Until then, we must staff the library as efficiently as possible while at the same time providing quality services and programming. We apologize for an occasional absence at one of the Reference Desks. We are continually trying to schedule the existing staff to minimize this problem. If you ever find one desk unattended when you need assistance, please let us help you at one of our other service desks.

3. (via web site) It's not a good idea to place your romance paperbacks right in the front of the library. People might be self-conscious browsing through them. Do it like Ela Library does -- incorporated ALL the paperback books (arranged alphabetically) toward the back of the library on a turning rack!

4. Get more comic books.

We have a Graphic Novel collection in our Young Adults Area. We are continuing to add new titles to this collection. If there are specific titles you would like to recommend, please stop by or call the Adult Reference Desk.

5. You need a computer with a CD player.

We are in the process of replacing or upgrading many of our public workstations. The new workstations will include CD-ROM drives with sound capability.

6. My mother and I (both frequent library patrons) were disappointed and surprised to discover you have removed the music cassette tapes from the library. My mom would borrow numerous tapes on a regular basis for listening at home. Many seniors don't have CD players and rely on music tapes for entertainment when they are homebound. What a shame!

Your point is well taken. However, please understand our reasons for discontinuing this collection:

1. Low, rapidly decreasing usage.
2. Deterioration of the cassette tapes.
3. Affordability and broad use of CD players
4. Storage cabinet space needed for expansion of the much higher-demand CD collection.
5. Availability of cassettes through interlibrary loan, free of charge -- just give us a call!
6. Cost of maintaining this collection versus the extremely low use

Please keep in mind that our AudioBook collection is top quality, very entertaining, and still growing.

7. Please buy the CDs UHF and "Weird Al Yankovic's Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2. And buy the movie UHF.

We do own "Weird Al's Greatest Hits" (both volumes). Please ask a librarian for help if you can't find them, or if they are checked out. We have ordered the CD "UHF", but the movie is no longer available to purchase.

8. The Children's Librarian was very helpful in locating classic novels geared for children. Thanks and keep up the good work!

11. Where is Alien 2 & 4? Please!!

We have ordered Aliens (the sequel to Alien) and Alien Resurrection (the sequel to Alien 3).

12. Why can't people use cell phones in the library - when children can run through the library screaming?

We have had complaints about both issues and we are addressing them. Most libraries have rules regarding cell phone use as well as patron behavior rules. We encourage parents to teach children to use their "quiet voices" in the library. Sorry if you were here on a noisy day!

13. The Diz CD by Eminem/Slim Shady.

We are not quite sure which CD you want. Please stop by the Reference Desk and let us know.

14. The library should get a picture machine.

Please explain.

15. Buy "Love and Sex, Ten Stories of Truth" by Michel Cart.

This is book is on order.

16. Three year-old storytime on Monday or Wednesday for those kids that attend pre-school on Tuesday and Thursday.

Due to staffing issues and various professional responsibilities, we simply are not able at this time to offer storytime on Mondays or multiple sessions on Wednesdays – especially in light of our heavy, established programming concentration in mid-week. We regret that your three-year old cannot participate in our Tuesday morning session of storytime, but hope that he/she will soon be old enough to register for the Wednesday session held at 10:30 a.m.

17. I received the library newsletter the week after registration was supposed to begin for kid's programs. I would really like to receive it earlier so I can better plan my activities!

We apologize for this inconvenience. Unfortunately, the newsletter was delayed in production and mailing this time, due to circumstances beyond our control. We always try to get the newsletter to your mailbox before the first day of storytime registration. Please be aware that these programs usually are promoted at the library's web site (www.wauclib.org) even before the newsletter is completed.

19. (via web site) Just wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience my five year-old had getting her first library card. Everyone was very helpful and helped her to feel that she was special. She couldn't believe that she could check out books and videos and not have to pay anything! But, you could use some better toys in the treasure chest. Even though she enjoyed getting her new fan.

We know children get excited about getting their first library card and we have fun giving them to them. The beautiful smiles on their faces makes our day!
