Loan requests will be accepted from registered users of any library, however a $2.00 per item fee will be charged to out-of-district cardholders. This fee will be payable when the requested item is picked up and will be charged to the customer whether the item is picked up or not.
The library will not request an item that is owned by the library but is checked out. However, if an item is missing or long overdue (more than one month), it may be requested via Interlibrary Loan.
Due dates are set by the lending library; ILL items will be checked out with the due date given by the lending library (up to a maximum of four weeks), regardless of when the patron checks the item out.
Items borrowed from NSLS libraries may be renewed once for one week by calling the Wauconda Area Library Reference Desk at least three working days prior to the due date. For longer renewals of NSLS items, and any renewals of items borrowed from non-NSLS libraries, patrons must call the Interlibrary Loan Department (Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm) at least three working days prior to the due date; such renewals are at the sole discretion of the loaning library and cannot be guaranteed. In all cases, they may only be renewed once.
Patrons may not repeatedly request an item, or have another family member request it, in an effort to circumvent the standard loan period plus renewal. There will be a two-week wait between the time a patron returns an NSLS interlibrary loan item and the time any member of the patron's household may request the item again. In the case of non-NSLS items, the waiting period will be three months.
The library does not buy textbooks for its collection, and since the purpose of ILL is not to provide continuous availability of an item for school use, the borrowing of textbooks will be limited to one request per patron for the same title every three months, with one renewal request.
Wauconda Area Library patrons are limited to five pending requests at one time. This includes items that are in process, checked out and/or renewed.
If the lending library charges a fee for interlibrary loan materials, Wauconda Area Library will pay up to $10.00 in a 6-month period for Wauconda card-holders only. Any cost exceeding that amount will be passed on to the patron, if the patron chooses to proceed with the transaction. Out of district patrons will be asked to pay the full amount. Payment will be due upon pickup of materials.
If the Interlibrary Loan material is received by the Library and meets the patron's criteria for timeliness and accuracy, the patron should come to the library to view or pick up the material. If the patron cannot be reached by phone or e-mail, or if the material is not picked up or viewed within ten days, a fee of $1.00 per item will be charged.
If an Interlibrary Loan item is not returned by its due date, it will be considered overdue and the Library will charge the customer an overdue fine of $0.25 ($2.00 for videos) per day until the item is returned, up to the replacement cost of the item, plus any processing fees. Replacement costs and processing fees are determined by the lending library. Fees should be paid at Wauconda Area Library and are non-refundable.
